Compassion

 

"Compassion is the natural ability to feel involved in pain and suffering, with the desire to alleviate this pain and suffering in yourself and others and take responsibility in it." Dalai Lama

 

You can have compassion for others, but also for yourself. Compassion starts with you, with self-compassion or loving kindness for yourself. You treat yourself as a good friend if you make mistakes, fail or if life is difficult. It is precisely at those moments that we are often strict and judgmental for ourselves, while we actually need self-compassion.

 

Self-compassion has its roots in Buddhism that is based on solidarity with yourself and with others; and consists of 3 elements: kindness to ourselves, the awareness that we are not alone, and attention to what is. 

 

Scientific research shows that self-compassion is important for psychological well-being and that self-compassion has a positive influence on life satisfaction, emotional intelligence and connectedness. In addition, self-compassion also has a positive influence on self-criticism, depression, anxiety, worry and perfectionism.

 

Compassion training

Mindfulness and compassion are like two wings of a bird. Where with mindfulness you learn to be with your attention and without judgment in the here and now, compassion is the warmth with which you can fill the here and now. They complement each other so beautifully!

That is why the focus of the training is at the beginning of the training on self-compassion: loving kindness for yourself. By connecting with yourself from compassion, you can also include it in your contact with others. You get to know the ways of the heart and you get practical tips on how you can practice self-compassion on a daily basis.

The Mindfulness Based Self Compassion training (MBSC) consists of 8 parts, with the following topics:

  1. The safe harbor

  2. Compassion as a life friend

  3. The compassionate companion

  4. The inner critic & the compassionate voice

  5. The round table of my heart & the sun of compassion

  6. The compass of your heart

  7. Give your story your love

  8. Bringing your love and compassion into the world

Because there was a demand for a compact form of the training, I organize a 3-day training together with Maaike de Wilde in which all sessions are covered. In the training we work with different meditations and different types of exercises, so you will experience on the spot and then continue practicing at home.

 

Practical:

Dates Friday 11 October, Friday 1 November and Friday 22 November from 9.30 am to 5 pm. Next training is in the first quarter of 2020

Location: De Tafel van Vlaardingen, Hoogstraat 117 in Vlaardingen

Private rate € 395 including VAT. If the employer pays for the training, the amount is exclusive of VAT.

This includes the intake, a workbook, audio materials and coffee / tea with something tasty

 

To follow the training, you must have meditation and / or yoga experience. If you have completed a mindfulness training, this is a good basis. If this is not the case, we will coordinate this together. After all, there are many forms of meditation and it is particularly important that you have already trained your attention somewhat.

Introduction workshop "First step to compassion"

Are you interested, but would you rather see first whether compassion suits you? There is an introduction workshop before the next training. 

Here you can become acquainted with what compassion means. We do some heart meditations and the structure of the training is explained. The costs per person are € 50 including VAT. If you then register for the full compassion training, you will receive a € 25 discount.

If you, as an employer, want to offer employees a compassion training or workshop, feel free to contact me to see what I can do in this. The tailor-made composition of a workshop is possible, in which I can link up with themes for, for example, a staff day, conference or congress.
